Thomas Carr held a Michelin star for 7-years from 2016 to 2022 at his two previous restaurants in North Devon - The Olive Room and 1873, before relocating to Scarborough North Yorkshire in 2023 to open his new seafood restaurant - Thomas Carr @ The Coast
In 2009 Thomas made the life changing decision to go and work under renowned celebrity Chef Nathan Outlaw in his Seafood and Grill Restaurant in Cornwall.
Initially employed as a Sous Chef, Thomas’s potential was soon recognised and in 2010 he was appointed Head Chef at Nathan Outlaw’s brand new restaurant, Restaurant Nathan Outlaw. Here Thomas’s potential continued to flourish, with the restaurant receiving two Michelin stars within a year of opening, along with numerous other industry accolades and awards.
In 2015 Thomas opened his own restaurant on Fore Street in Ilfracombe - The Olive Room. The restaurant gave Thomas the freedom to develop his own unique style, focusing his dishes on the local fresh fish from the harbour. The restaurant soon became a stand out in the local area, being fully recognised when The Olive Room was awarded a coveted Michelin star in 2016. The restaurant held a Michelin star from 2016 to 2020 when the restaurant closed due to issues arising from the Covid pandemic.
Thomas quickly brushed himself down and launched Thomas Carr 1873 in the town's former Victorian police station. The restaurant immediately became a success being awarded a new Michelin star in the 2021 guide and retaining the Michelin star in 2022.
